Prayers and messages of support for South Africa's application to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to have Israel stop its retaliatory attacks on Gaza resounded outside the Western Cape High Court on Thursday.
Christians, Jews, Muslims, political activists, supporters wearing Palestinian colours, and a group of lawyers in their robes sang the national anthem amid speeches calling for the strength of the legal team and solidarity with the people of Gaza.
"Why did we all have to wait until thousands, tens of thousands of children, men, women, the elderly and people living with disabilities were dying, murdered and executed?" asked activist Zackie Achmat, who also questioned why there was no proper trade boycott in place.
