Angry parents in the Eastern Cape have reported some of the province's schools to the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) for preventing pupils from wearing goatskin wristbands, Hindu red string, and other accessories which form part of their religious, cultural and traditional beliefs.
The SAHRC in the Eastern Cape is launching an inquiry regarding allegations that pupils have been subjected to victimisation and discriminatory treatment.
The commission will hold hearings from 14 to 16 March in Gqeberha.
