American video game publisher Rockstar Games finally released the trailer to Grand Theft Auto VI after the much-anticipated game, which will be released in 2025, was leaked online.

The visuals of trailer take place in a fictional Miami setting - reminiscent of Vice City from its 2002 GTA: Vice City.

Rockstar Games released the trailer early, about 13 hours ahead of schedule, after it was leaked on X.

The video was said to have been covered in a huge watermark, urging viewers to buy Bitcoin but was later taken down.

Early in September last year, an entity called teapotuberhacker published 90 videos showing a large body of work that is still in progress, including short clips of animation tests, various characters and more.

The scenes

The first trailer kicks off with a gripping sequence set within the confines of a prison.

Our eyes are immediately drawn to Lucia, one of the protagonists, seated in an orange prison uniform within what seems to be a prison office. Tom Petty's Love is a Long Road sets the scene for an adventurous narrative.

As the scene shifts, we get a bird's eye view of the vibrant atmosphere of Miami's sun-soaked beaches.

The camera captures beach bodies of different races, each contributing to the liveliness of the city. Swiftly transitioning, we're thrust into the heart of the city, where sports cars race through the streets.

The trailer then takes us on a tour of the city's nightlife, with scenes of strip clubs and nightclubs buzzing with activity.

It transitions to new heights, showing a rooftop pool party with characters that embody ideal standards of beauty, according to old fashioned mainstream media.

In true Florida antics, we see an alligator being pulled out of someone's backyard pool, adding a touch of wild unpredictability gamers should expect.

In a couple of scenes after that, another alligator nonchalantly makes its way into a convenience store, leaving both characters and viewers stunned.

Moving forward

Lucia is said to be the first female protagonist in the history of GTA's open world game since its release in 1997.

The online game has previously featured four female characters, however, none of them took centre stage like Lucia currently does.

The game has proven to be a hit globally as Grand Theft Auto V reportedly sold 190 million copies worldwide following its release in 2013.

This, combined with GTA Online, became the single most profitable entertainment product of all time, generating US$6 billion dollars (R112.8 billion) in revenue.

Although not clear, the company teased the game will be officially released sometime in 2025.
