A new water level monitoring
device recently launched by JoJo is the first of a series of tech devices the
South African water company is set to introduce.
Last Friday, it launched an Internet of Things (IoT) water tank level monitoring device that had been in the works for four years.
This according to Sebasti Badenhorst, JoJo's sales, distribution, and marketing executive.
JoJo is a South African company that was founded nearly 40 years ago, and it has become a popular water tank manufacturer.
The water level monitoring device will be fixed to the top of a JoJo tank and will be able to monitor its level to provide statistics on the amount of water that enters and leaves the tank and monthly usage statistics.
This data is viewable on the recently launched JoJo monitor app.The data from the monitoring
device can be transferred to the application by Bluetooth or the low power
wireless network provider, Sigfox.
The device was selling for R4 999 and came with a year's free Sigfox subscription after which payment of R350 would be required for the Sigfox subscription, said Badenhorst.
A 4 750l JoJo tank is listed for R5 099 on the Builders Warehouse website.
Badenhorst said the product appealed more to the wealthier segment of their market.
"You know how people are. They like tech and they will spend on tech," she added.
"In the smaller scale commercial industrial market, we think there is huge opportunity."
In addition to the water level monitor, Badenhorst said the company was also developing a water meter and water detector tool.
She added the current device only performed monitoring services and the company was also working on a control package where the use of the tank could be adjusted based on the water level.
"There is a difference between monitoring and control. These devices only monitor. You can't switch things on and off.
"We are working on our control package which we will add to the app," Badenhorst said.
