Microsoft in South Africa will increase its subscription prices for its Microsoft 365 productivity suite from 1 August 2023.

The productivity software offers various apps for professionals and students, including Word, OneDrive, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Currently, the monthly subscription price for the Basic offering is R29. This will see a 34% hike to R39, while the Personal subscription will jump from R99 to R109, a 10% price increase.

For an annual Personal subscription, customers will start paying R1 099 instead of R999, and the Family annual plan will go from R1 299 to R1 499.

According to MyBroadband, the company notified its customers by email that from 1 August, 2023 Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, and Family will increase. However, prices have not been updated on the tech company's website.

The American technology company said the price hikes were necessary due to "changing market conditions", according to an article published on MyBroadband.

The last price adjustment for this offering was in February 2020, when the annual subscription fee for Office 365 Personal increased from R899 to R999.

During the same period, the annual subscription fee for Office 365 Home jumped from R1 199 to R1 399. This included productivity apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Outlook, OneDrive, and Skype.

Customers who do not change or cancel their plan two days before their next scheduled payment will be charged the new price as of 1 August.
