The English RFU has issued an apology after Harlequins lock Irne Herbst spent seven minutes in the sin-bin instead of 10 during a Premiership match at the weekend.

A timing error by the officials meant South African-born Herbst was allowed to re-join the action early after receiving a yellow card.

Quins survived a Bath comeback to win the encounter 40-36 at the Twickenham Stoop.
