The Springboks are clearly intent on unleashing a special kind of beast for a maiden start in the first Test encounter with the British and Irish Lions at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday week.
In the meantime, celebrated Leicester Tigers-based wrecking ball Jasper Wiese, who got a brief, 20-minute international debut off the bench against Georgia recently, has a vital, preparatory crack - what else could it be interpreted as, really? - at the Lions in Wednesday night’s SA ‘A’ side which is largely that in name only.
It is at the same venue and Wiese may well only have to look “encouraging” there - for a virtually shadow-Bok outfit - to book his ticket to the No 8 jersey for the Full Monty date on 24 July.
