  • Tswyza takes on the role of Musa on eTV’s Isiphetho.
  • He says he appreciated acting on Generations but he would like to explore his talents more.
  • Tswyza also recently got married to his partner of seven years.

Someone we have known as Mrekza from Generations: The Legacy for the past eight years recently took on a new role.

Kope 'Tswyza' Makgae plays Musa in Etv’s Isiphetho.

“Playing Mrekza was one of my biggest roles. The one that was most prominent and the most long lasting,” the actor says as he mentions that this role gave him a breakthrough in the acting industry.

“It created the name, it created the credibility,” he says and he believes Mrekza became a household name for many South Africans.

However, Tswyza yearns for new experiences and says he would look to spread his wings and explore his talents.

“Comfort is the most dangerous thing. You end up getting so complacent, working with the same people, same schedule, same type of storyline, same character,” states Tswyza.

Because he wishes to do more productions with streaming platforms Netflix and Showmax, Tswyza says it was quite a challenge to do so while acting as one of the leads on Generations: The Legacy.

“I’m still yet to cry on TV, I’d love to try that out,” Tswyza states, describing how he would like to take on more emotional, dramatic and romantic scenes. He further jokes about being tired of being committed to Lucy and having to kiss her for eight years.

Tswyza says that his role on Isipheto does fill a part of the void that he feels because he desires more adventure for his career.

Taking on the role of Musa in Isiphetho, he plays a culinary chef who is very street smart and comes from a shady background. He says Musa is part of a group that consists of three other chefs and in that group he is the only male. As the only male in what he calls "the fantastic four," he feels the need to be protective and to always take care of his female colleagues.

Tswyza says his role on Isiphetho has much variation - he gets to be in a love story, there are scenes of empathy and we witness him hustling and for a better future for himself.

He says he still looking forward new complex roles as he believes this role is not a complete change from Mrekza’s character.
