3 ways to fake an hour-glass figure

accreditation
If your hips are not your favourite part of your body then you can downsize them by wearing the right clothing. Often, when we don’t like a certain part of our bodies, we tend to wear big baggy clothing in attempt to cover it up.

This actually makes you look bigger.

In order to de-emphasise your hips, you need to create a sense of balance between your hips and your shoulders or bust.

Here are three ways to do this:

Tip 1: Emphasise your waist.  Many times, a woman’s shoulders or bust are in perfect balance to her hips.  Emphasising your waist will show off that natural balance. If your bust and shoulders are smaller than your hips proportionally, then add ‘bulk’ to your top part by wearing a padded bra, high cut necklines, ruffled or detailed tops or a little fitted cropped jacket.

This will create the illusion that your bust and shoulders are bigger than they are in order to balance your hips.

Tip 2:  Flared hems balance your hips.  When your hem is the widest point, it makes you hips look narrow in comparison. For example, a dress with a flared hem will balance your hips versus a dress with a narrowed hem.  Flared hems also work well in trousers; bootleg, wide leg, straight leg or even slim leg works better than skinny cuts when you want to de-emphasis your hips.

Thanks to the summer trends this season, flared hem trousers and jeans will be super easy to find.

Tip 3: Side panels in a dress can shave centimeters off your hips, especially if the side panels are darker than the rest of the dress.  You will see various paneled dresses in stores this summer.  Look out for a style and colour combination that works for you.
