Hi girls

Here's hoping you're keeping warm, well-moisturised and flake-free during this particularly hideous patch of weather we're having. (Is it just me or does this winter feel colder than the last?)

This week, I got to experience a nice little treat in the midst of all this shivery misery – an indulgent spa package at the Life Day Spa in Cape Town (It's situated in the Crystal Towers hotel, just outside Canal Walk and they have a branch in Jozi too). They have a winter special on that runs until the end of July, called the Journey of Life. For R800, you get to relax in their floatation pool and Rasul chamber before finishing up with a back massage and invigorating Thai foot treatment.

Now, for those of you who haven't experienced the fabness of a Rasul chamber, let me tell you all about it. Essentially, you get to strip off and enter a little room that's much like a sauna – only much nicer. See the piccie below? (Nope, that's not me – it's a model. I wish I was that tan right now...)

All those little 'stars' on the ceiling are actually LED lights that twinkle to create a lovely twilight effect. And those seats are heated, so they're deliciously warm to sit on.

As for how it works; while the room fills up with steam, you're to rub a grapeseed oil-based salt scrub all over your bod. There's a shower in the chamber, so, when you're done, you can rinse it off. Next, you're to apply a detoxifying mud mask. (I went a bit mal with this and slapped it on every exposed bit of skin I could reach, including my face, so by the time I was done, I looked like a khaki-coloured Kermit). Soon, the room fills up with steam, so you can sit back and relax/revel in your absolute green-ness.

Eventually, the humidity breaks with a little faux tropical 'storm' as water begins to 'rain' down from the ceiling. Once the mask has trickled down the drain, you're left with skin that feels deliciously soft and smooth. This is definitely something I can recommend to anyone looking for a fun, pampering experience and, if you can rope in a friend, even better – you'll have someone to help 'mask up' your back in the chamber.

Now, let's talk new product!

Elizabeth Arden has just brought out lots of exciting additions to their Colour Intrigue make-up collection that includes new shades of their Sheer Lipstick and High Shine Lipgloss. (Get to an Arden counter to check them out). Also, they used to only have single eye shadows and quads, but now they've introduced Elizabeth Arden Colour Intrigue Eyeshadow Duos, R205. They've been quite brave with their colour pairings (the new hues include a "matte blue and deep teal" as well as well as "dramatic white and shimmery black"), but the twosome I like best is a demure little pair called Golden Moss – a shimmery gold-toned beige and olive-green. When applied, the green shade doesn't look green at first, but rather like a dusty-coloured taupe. It's very nice for anyone wanting to rock a smoky eye, but worried that darker shadows like charcoal or grey might wash them out.

Another 'eye-enhancer' new to the shelves? Yardley Lash Plumper Super Volume mascara, R89,95. Thanks to the addition of 'yoghurt powder', (yes, really), it glosses up your lashes whilst curling, lifting and volumising. (In fact, it promises to give your lashes up to 'nineteen times' more voomah).

Last, but not least, if you're looking for a cheap 'n cheerful beauty gem, take a look at Vaseline Intensive Rescue Moisture Locking body cream, R31,99 for 500ml. I have to admit, I assumed this cream would be far too thick and 'heavy'. In fact, I imagined I'd apply it to my skin and watch it just 'lie' there. Imagine my surprise when my arm, which isn't particularly dry, sucked it all up in a flash! Just that like, I got a delicious dose of vitamin A, B and E and was left feeling beautifully hydrated without a touch of stickiness. So, if you're looking for intensive hydration, but find that body butters leave you feeling a little too greasy, be sure to toss one of these babies into your trolley.

Love, love

Leigh

P.S. If you've ever needed a good reason to spoil yourself of someone else, we've got one for you right here; The Body Shop has re-issued their special edition hand cream, Soft Hands, Kind Heart, R65. Infused with Angelica extract and mega-moisturising Community Trade olive oil, all the proceeds of its sale go to Child Welfare to help put a stop to child sex trafficking both locally and abroad.
