It’s been a busy year for Tanit Phoenix. The actress has just wrapped up four films, one of which is the film adaptation of John Van de Ruit’s super-successful novel Spud. ‘I play Eve, the sultry, free-spirited drama teacher who has an affair with a schoolboy’, she says, adding that she’ll be starring opposite John Cleese. She’s also just wrapped up shooting the print and TV ads for a sexy, new Woolworths lingerie campaign and is now jetting off to Los Angeles to filming another flick which is all very ‘hush, hush’.
A star on the rise, Tanit reveals she keeps her skin looking screen-test ready with a mix of Dermalogica and La Mer. Some of her favourite products in particular are Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub (something she uses ‘every few days’) and La Mer Moisturising Cream. ‘I also keep Evian mineral water spray close by when my skin feels dehydrated’, she says. ’Great for when I’m flying long haul trips’. Still, she sometimes confesses to being ‘naughty’ and using whatever he sister has in her cupboard.
As far as make up goes, she likes Biotherm Light Easy Blend foundation, Kryolan Dermacolor camoflage crème and MAC Mineralize Skin Finish powder in Medium Dark. To make her peepers pop, she’ll create a dramatic eye Rimmel Colour Rush Quad in Smoky Noir before applying a few slicks of Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara. Lippie-wise, Tanit likes Revlon Colorstay Soft & Smooth lipstick in Natural Cashmere, Benefit Benetint lip tint and Blistex Lip Tone tinted lip balm. (She thinks the latter might be discontinued because she says she’s searched everywhere for it. Still, it’s her absolute ‘must have’, she says. ‘I bought the last stock when I found some a few months ago, about 30 lip balms!’)
To help keep her hair in perfect condition, Tanit says she uses Sebastian Hydre shampoo and conditioner. ‘My products change all the time, I prefer not to use the same product for too long as it creates a build up on my hair’, she says. As far as styling goes, she likes to use Kerastase Nutritive Oleo Relax Elixer when she wants to create a ‘sleek blow dry’ and L’Oreal Professional Tecni Art Hot Style Iron Finish (a thermo-activated smoothing crème) when she uses her ghd for straightening.

What colour nail polishes will you be rocking this spring?
I stole an Orly nail varnish in Pop Tart Pink from my sister; it’s my new favourite summer colour. I am also a neutral kinda girl, so French manicures and nude beiges are on my list. I am sporting a bright red on my toes right now.
Quick – turf out your handbag. What beauty goods do you have stashed in there?
I keep my Benetint close by, although it lasts pretty well throughout the day. I have Zambuk for my lips, and I keep a pink gloss tucked in my bag too. If I know I am going out to an event, I keep most of my make-up close.
How’d you keep that hot bod in perfect nick?
I love Bio-Oil. It keeps your skin very supple. I also do body scrubs from The Body Shop; my favourite are Strawberry, Mango and Olive. I also use a wonderful Vera Wang massage cream that smells like heaven. When I am going out in the evening, Nivea shimmering body lotion gives my skin a beautiful glow.
Tell us, what perfume do you wear?
I mix and match depending on my mood. My new favourite is Jean Paul Gaultier 'Gaultier'. I love Moschino 'I Love Love', and Dior 'J'adore'. If I’m feeling girly I wear Clinique 'Happy'. Also, I have a thing for 'Issey Miyake', but the male perfume. I only ever wear it when I am in one of my masculine moods.
If we had to snoop around in your bathroom (and we sooo would given the chance), what would we find in your shower or around your bath?
I have six big vanilla candles placed all around my bathroom, a range of Aromatic Apothecary Scentsationals oils, a selection of Radox Herbal foam bath gels, a Crabtree and Evelyn Avocado Oil bath and shower gel and Kiehl’s Mango bath and shower liquid body cleanser. I also have The Body Shop Papaya and Mango foaming baths, Radox Body Tonic detox mud and clay bath oil, Holotropic Jasmine Mustard and Mineral health and beauty bath, Gold sugar scrub from @home and two deep pink orchid pots.
Finally, do you have a li’l beauty secret or piece of advice for the girls at w24.co.za?
Don’t wear make-up when you are sleeping, your skin needs to breathe. If you are spending a night in with your boyfriend, use mineral make-up just in case you fall asleep in his arms. That way your skin does not dehydrate.
