Vanessa Marawa's make-up bag

Fact file
Name:
Vanessa Marawa
Age:
31
Occupation:
Television presenter, model and entrepreneur
Location:
Jozi

Live in Jozi? Feeling a little stuck for 'style inspirasie'? Perhaps you should give Vanessa Marawa a ring. As it turns out, the Survivor South Africa alum is planning on launching a new business called Wardrobe Warriors. "If you're stumped about what to wear or you need to update your look, my team will come through and give you a wardrobe makeover. The service can include a hair and makeup make over. So prepare to go shopping and look fabulous."

While on the subject of looking fab, Vanessa reveals that the one product she relies on the most for glamour on the go is her beloved MAC Mineralize Skinfinish powder foundation. "I no longer wear foundation and powder, just my mineraliser. It looks a lot more natural while giving you just enough coverage," she says. Her other cosmetic must-haves include Chanel Exceptionnel Intense Volume and Curl mascara in black, MAC Eye Brows brow pencil in Stud, Elizabeth Arden Smoky Eyes powder pencil in Smoky Black and Elizabeth Arden High Shine lip gloss in Pink Champagne.

As far as skin care goes, she says she likes to cleanse with a locally produced Theravine cleanser, tone with a "Woolies natural facial toner spray" and uses a Vichy Oligo 25 moisturiser to hydrate. She also likes to treat her skin to a weekly application of Chanel Precision Masque Lift Express Line Smoothing Mask. "Clearly I'm not completely brand loyal," she says.

To keep her bod looking model-zexy, Vanessa relies on Bio-oil as well as Sh'Zen Cellulite Control Scub, a firming, thermal body exfoliator. "I do find it necessary to apply lotion every day, ashy is not a good look for me," she says.

When it comes to taking care of her hair, she prefers Joico's K-Pak range, a protein-packed salon line that helps reconstruct and protect damaged hair. "I had a breakage problem and my hairstylist recommended the range to me," she says. "It worked like a charm." Since having cut her hair shorter, Vanessa says she no longer uses styling products. However, for "softness and shine", she's a fan of Dark n' Lovely Oil Spray.

Now it's time for a few quick questions!

What colour nail polishes are you rocking this summer?
I'm boring in that department - I stick to pearly pinks because of work. In the past I would apply some groovy colour and then be called in for a shoot the next day and have to remove it before it had barely dried.

What's your biggest beauty no-no?
Super obvious lip liner is a pet peeve as well as what I call 'Dallas' make up. The bright pink 80's lips and blue shadow. Hmmm…

Quick – turf out your handbag. What beauty goods do you have stashed in there?
I used to be the whole kit and caboodle kinda chick but have been converted. You'll find my MAC mineralizer, cuticle pen and Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream.

What perfume do you wear? Do you have a day or night scent? A special occasion scent? Tell, tell, tell!
I don't have a particular perfume I wear. Most have been gifted to me and I just mix it up. However, I do have a favourite or special occasion day perfume – MAC Naked Honey EDT. And for special evenings I love my little bottle of Cartier.

If we had to snoop around in your bathroom (and we sooo would given the chance), what would we find in your shower or around your bath?
Nivea Pampering Oil Shower Oil, Sanex shower gel, Joico products, candles, (not scented though) and Gillette shaving cream.

Finally, any other beauty secrets or a last word of advice for the girls at w24.co.za?
The best budget beauty secret is water. Drink it, love it!
