What men are really saying when they cat-call.

Many women cringe at the mere thought of being cat-called in the street, because we are not looking for trouble. We therefore don’t understand why these men do it.

The spoof video below makes fun of men who do it, showing them exactly how stupid they look and sound. 

Interestingly, the video, which is clearly making fun of this annoying act, gave me pause. When I watched it for the first time, I laughed. Of course, I did. But later, I started to think...

Could this actually be true? Are they hitting the nail on the head? Is this why men catcall?

Could this video also be a mask that hides a scarier monster, which is patriarchy and subliminal (billboard) rape culture?  I don’t know.

But, whether they mean well or not, I am sure of one thing: I could live without it.
