A lot of online anger has been sparked over a new video by French prankster Remi Galliard. In the video Galliard has “air sex” with various unwitting and uncooperative women in public. The video, which has gotten more than 3.3 million views in the first few days, has been criticised in traditional and social media for “trivialising sexual violence” , “promoting rape culture” and “imitation rape.”
Although the women featured in the clip are all actors, the video clearly doesn’t depict fake consensual sex. Many women are worried that this could become just another trend to demean women and play down sexual violence.
Galliard remains unrepentant about the stunt. On his Facebook page he has thanked his supporters:
"The first estimates from YouTube at midday: 2,510,583 views - 67,078 likes - 4,853 dislikes. Thank you for voting en masse...for the freedom of expression."
