Prostitutes shouldn’t be shamed

This is what Debbie wrote to us:

I was absolutely horrified at what I heard on Kellman Live on 2 Oceans Vibe Radio Station this week. On Saturday at 15:12 pm Arye Kellman began to call sex workers who had placed ads in the classifieds section of a newspaper.

Mister Kellman claimed that he was asking "management" at the time which of the ads he should call. He read out 5 ads, all for sex workers, and then claims that management picked a woman named "Misha."

He called this woman and had a conversation with her while she had no idea that she was on the radio. Knowing this, and knowing that he had read out her entire ad, and given out the name she uses, Mister Kellman then proceeded to make a fake appointment with her and ask for a price and where he must meet her!

He intentionally asked her for details of where he should meet her, and allowed her to tell him to meet her at a specific hospital!

After he hung up with her he described her as "useless" and said that "prostitutes" should not sound so boring on the phone, and he then wondered if she is also so boring in bed. He did this while laughing, and enjoying mocking her.

He then called another sex worker, told listeners what her ad said, that she was located in Randfontein, I think it was, and gave out 7 digits of her phone number! He also made a fake appointment with this woman.

This entire incident was extremely uncomfortable to listen to. Firstly Mister Kellman intentionally gave out and tried to retrieve information from these women which could be used to identify them.

Their voices could be recognized, or the locations such as the hospital could be used to identify them. This is a broach of their privacy because they had no idea that they were live on the radio.

Secondly, Mister Kellman is telling his listeners that it is okay to mock and prank call sex workers. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if any listeners who idolise Mister Kellman prank call sex workers themselves.

Or take it further and decide to victimize them, mock them. Where does it end? This kind of behaviour made it clear that Mister Kellman views sex workers as sub human. I believe that this incident clearly displayed a misogynist attitude and was discriminatory to all sex workers as well as women in general.

I urge you to publicize this incident so that the 2 Oceans Vibe Brand realises that they need to take action, or associate themselves as a brand with misogyny and female sex worker victimisation in a climate of extremely high levels of gender-based violence.

Mister Kellman needs to apologise directly to these sex workers he victimised, as well as to all sex workers in general.

To be honest someone who thinks that a stunt like this was funny should be fired and is a disgrace to the brand and radio station.
