5 Community Charities that need YOU

1)    Hamba-buya shelter: The shelter in Kwazulu-Natal was established in 2001 and has been caring for the homeless for the past 11 years. It is a place of safety and comfort for the young and old and their focus is to restore self-worth in the forgotten members of society. They are in need of financial contributions and any other donations (food, bedding, etc) to sustain the shelter.

2)    DARG: This shelter cares for our furry friends who have become victims of abuse and neglect. It is a non-profit organization that rescues stray dogs and cats, and acts as a place of safety until such time that they can be adopted.  DARG relies on donations and the time and skills of volunteers. Spending time with these cute and cuddlies will leave you feeling fuzzy.

3)    Academy for Adults with Autism: The focus of this academy is to provide a safe and stimulating place for young adults with Autism who have nowhere to go during the day whilst family members are at work. The need for this academy is necessary, as once these kids turn 18, specialised schools can no longer cater for them.  At the Academy, young adults with autism are able to socialise, learn and grow to their full potential but they need your help with voluntary work and donations.

4)    The lighthouse baby shelter:
Operating in Gauteng, this shelter is truly special as they have a “hole in the wall” which is called “The Moses basket” mothers can place their unwanted babies in the basket and the shelter will care for the child up to the age of 6years old. The point of the Moses basket is to reduce the number of murdered or neglected babies. Help these children by helping the shelter out with goods such as baby shampoo, disposable nappies, tinned food etc.
