These boys prove that it’s NOT ok to hit a woman

accreditation
While certain parts of the world has generally improved regarding women and our role in society (I say generally because there is still plenty of work to do) the big problem of violence against women is a worldwide issue that doesn't seem to go away.

The UN reported that in some countries 70% of women have experienced physical or sexual violence and 35% of women have had this experience worldwide – and those are just reported cases.

An Italian news organisation, Fanpage.it, decided to teach us why it is violence against women is wrong use the power of innocence – children.

In the video, five of the cutest little Italian boys meet a girl for the first time. You can just see that one of the boys is going to be a proper heart breaker as he immediately starts to flirt with the girl!

They are asked  what they think of her, to caress her – which is a little bit awkward – make a funny face at her and then to slap her. They boy’s responses show that violence, especially violence against women is not at all ok.

The only issue I have with the video is the circumstances around it. Putting children in an uncomfortable situation like that may not be the best thing for them, what if those boys did hit the girl? How would they be able to teach the boys that it’s wrong after insisting they did it?

But having said that sometime it takes a really uncomfortable situation to make us stand up and take notice, and boy does this video make you take notice. It may not stop the problem completely, but it will generate debate and thought process - and that is the first step in solving the problem.
