This actress think feminism means hating men

The Divergent actress Shailene Woodley spoke about a range of things in her recent interview with Time, but what caught us by surprise was her, frankly absurd, view on the definition of feminism.

During her interview with the mag, Shailene said that she could never be a feminist because she loves men, and raising women to power while we “take the men away from the power” will never work since we need “balance”.

Which strikes me as odd since, in previous interviews, she has made a point of speaking out about the obvious traditional limitations for women in Hollywood and how this is interpreted by the fans.

In this behind the scenes video for Divergent, Shailene talks about the lack of jealousy and “ridiculous girl-fights” in the film while saying “It’s such an important message to send out there in this age of feminism because, yes, men need to respect women, and women need to be the leads of films, but at the same time, how do we expect men to respect women if women don’t respect women?”.

She also talks about “sisterhood” and the anger that sometimes exists between women because it’s important for women to support each other.

Shailene Woodley, do you know what feminism means? Have you ever read any feminist literature? Or articles? Have you even googled it? Because everything you’re saying is feminist. You think men and women should be equal. There shouldn’t be a power struggle. Women should support one another and there should be a sisterhood of sorts where we stop the hating, comparing and general bullshit.

But the cherry on this anti-feminist cake? The actress talks about the new flick, The Other Woman (which she mistakenly thought was a Judd Apatow movie), saying how awesome it is that women come together and support each other.

When the interviewer points out that the reason they come together is to bring down a man, she contradicts her earlier point by once again referencing the “sisterhood” and saying she thinks “it’s great” that this group of women are going after him because he “did something wrong”.

Because creating a misandrist threesome to punish a man is okay as long as you don’t take his power away.
