Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a turn-based tactical role-playing game by Ubisoft, which is available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, featuring both single and co-op gameplay.
The game is a crossover of Nintendo’s beloved Mario and Ubisoft’s Raving Rabbids franchise, which brings together Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Yoshi, with four Rabbid heroes dressed as the former with their own unique personalities. For example, Rabbid Peach is sassy and can be seen taking selfies in the game.
The game sees the Mushroom Kingdom torn apart by the misuse of a powerful visor, the SupaMerge, created to solve an energy crisis by GeniusGirl and her AI assistant, Beep-0. The helmet merges any two objects it targets into a single device, which can be dangerous when in the wrong hands.
A Rabbid called Spawny gets attached to the headset and starts messing around with it. Some merges are a Rabbid with a wig and the girl’s phone, creating Rabbid Princess Peach; and another with a red object turning him into Rabbid Mario.
When the Rabbid strikes the Time Washing Machine, it sucks all of the Rabbids into a dimensional vortex. The game starts after these events, and it is up to you – the heroes of the game – to restore order to the Kingdom by finding Spawny before the bad guys do.
Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi and the four Rabbids team up and battle it out in four worlds filled with combat, puzzles and unpredictable enemies. Along the way, you collect coins as if you were playing a classic Mario game, and then participate in turn-based combat.
The game has stunning graphics. The weapons resemble guns, and each character has a primary and secondary weapon that you unlock as the game progresses.
You take turns fighting as each hero, but you can only bring three into combat, and this is where you must be strategic about which character you use. Each hero has their own strengths and weaknesses.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is bound to bring hours of entertainment as swapping between heroes and their abilities is engaging fun for the family – well, 10 years and up.
