LinkedIn has become the latest social media platform to introduce a stories feature. But don’t be tempted to post videos of your kids’ first birthday party or syrupy inspirational quotes. Even though the tool new mimics the more relaxed experience of other social media outlets, LinkedIn is quick to warn against treating this platform in the same way. 

The employment-oriented platform will now allow enable companies and members to publish photos and videos up to 20 seconds long via the platform’s mobile app. These posts can include text and customised work stickers, and will be visible for 24 hours before disappearing, as is common with the feature on other apps.

French design house Christian Dior Couture made use of the feature with behind-the-scenes shots from Paris Fashion Week in September. Other companies have used it to announce competition winners, to provide an insight into the making of products and to host virtual Q&As.
