That set of ninja-themed salt and pepper shakers could’ve come your way because your sister adores your quirky sense of humour. And perhaps your grandmother genuinely believes you’d look good in a neon orange T-shirt.

There’s a chance your best friend wanted to lift your spirits with a musical knife, and with your colleague it’s really the thought that counts when it comes to that box of brightly coloured pens.
