Did you know you can get sunburnt in just 15 minutes? That’s all it takes to cause DNA damage to your skin – and when you’re out and about enjoying the glorious summer sun, that amount of time can pass in the blink of an eye.  

That’s why you need to take every necessary precaution before you step out the door. Sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer, which is still the most common cancer in South Africa with around 20?000 reported cases a year. 

The best way to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays is to limit exposure to them. But let’s be honest – basking in the sun is one of life’s pleasures and after months and months of lockdown, and the festive season looming, many South Africans will be looking forward to getting out and spending time in the fresh air.
