Plus-size beauties strip to challenge ad industry culture

Three plus-sized models have stripped naked for a project highlighting curvy figures in the beauty industry.

Young Chilean beauties Antonia Larrain, Vanessa Essad and Bernardita Cruz are being featured in a documentary by journalists Belen Lagos and Valentina Morales called We Love The Curves.

The documentary is aimed at raising awareness of forms of beauty other than the skinny frames seen on the majority of beauty and fashion models.

It also seeks to promote body confidence in women who may not see models like themselves represented in fashion magazines.

Cruz (24), who’s been the face of advertising several campaigns, says the industry has become more accepting of fuller figures.

"I've been in this business for nine years and before, when I went to a casting, they rejected me and told me I didn’t see myself accurately in the photos."

The models were first photographed in lingerie by Paula Labra. One of the models then suggested they go completely naked.

"It was so liberating and in the end (from the comments) I realised we all have the same insecurities," Larrain said.

Her 33 000 social media followers were quick to send a flood of supportive messages.

‘Leotards’ wrote: "Congratulations, Antonia . . . let me tell you that everything you say is the most brilliant thing ever, and good images too.

"Obviously, very beautiful, the diversity of the body is the most wonderful thing. We have to be happy and feel proud with our body to love ourselves as we are."
