The 33-year-old actress is missing and presumed to have drowned.

This comes after Naya rented a pontoon boat at Lake Piru in California on Wednesday, 8 July, with her four-year-old son, Josey Hollis.

Later that afternoon, the boat was found floating with only her son aboard and her vehicle still parked at the lake, Daily Mail reports.

According toTMZ, the boy told authorities his mom had jumped into the water and never returned to the surface.

A team of divers, drones and helicopters were dispersed immediately and searched the lake for Naya, whose life jacket was in the boat.

Josey, whom she shares with ex-husband actor Ryan Dorsey, was found asleep in the pontoon when it was first spotted and has since been placed in the safety of family, Variety reports.

“He's in good health,” said Captain Eric Buschow of Ventura County sheriff's office. “The family is going through a very traumatic time right now.”

Captain Buschow added that they were still looking for the boy’s mother who at the time hadn’t yet been identified, E! News reported.

Taking to its official Twitter page, the Ventura County sheriff's office later identified the missing person as Naya, further revealing that the search was suspended until first light.

The actress and singer’s disappearance comes after she posted an adorable snap of her and her son on her Instagram  page.

“Just the two of us,” Naya captioned the post.

Many of her fans have since taken to Twitter, calling for her safe return.

“Naya Rivera was MORE than just a Glee character, she is a mother of a 4-year-old-child who needs her more than ever. Stop posting reaction pics/videos of this situation. This is insensitive. A HUMAN BEING is missing. I’m praying that she’ll be found safe and sound,” one user tweeted.

“I’m sorry but Naya Rivera was more than her Glee character. She was a daughter, a friend, a sister and a mother. For you guys to not even call her by her real name in a time like this is so distasteful. Cut the memes and start spreading awareness. She’s a missing person,” another added.
