Her loved ones are becoming increasingly worried and after Amanda Bynes' latest breakdown, it's easy to see why. The actress was placed on psychiatric hold for the second time this year after she called the police and said she needed help.
Authorities took the former child star into custody.
The Los Angeles Police Department said they were responding to a call by a woman who said she was in distress.
“The actress was deemed a danger to herself and those around her,” the LAPD said in a statement.
At the police station, Amanda underwent a mental health evaluation by a professional medical unit. She was transferred to a mental health facility where she was placed on a 72-hour mandatory hold, but it didn’t stop there.
The mandatory hold was extended as the actress experienced a cycle of breakdowns.
This is the second hold in a three-month period, which has caused increased concern among Amanda’s loved ones who continue to worry about her safety and well-being.
“Amanda functions well when she takes her medication but stops (taking it) once feeling better, leading to her next downward spiral,” a source close to her said.
The extended stay will be for one more week as doctors try to stabilise the medication Amanda takes for the treatment of bipolar disorder.
In April this year, Amanda spent a few weeks in a mental facility under psychiatric watch until she was declared well enough to go home.
At the time, she continued treatment in the form of outpatient therapy and continued working with her psychiatrist to get the support she needed.
She continued living at her home without supervision because her nine-year conservatorship was terminated last year.
Although her parents, Rick (78) and Lynn Bynes (76), weren’t by her side when she was hospitalised, a source close to the couple say they've vowed to support her in any way they can.

Amanda was admitted to the facility for three weeks towards the end of March after she was found roaming the streets of Los Angeles naked.
"She’s not being forced to stay at the facility,” an insider said at that time.
The Hairspray actress has been candid about her mental health struggles in the past.
"Truly, my behaviour was drug-induced,” she said. “Whenever I got off drugs, I was back to normal."
In 2018, she revealed that she started abusing drugs such as Ecstasy and Adderall after she retired from acting.
"I just had no purpose in life. I'd been working my whole life and I was doing nothing," she said. "I had a lot of time on my hands, I'd 'wake and bake' and literally be stoned all day long."
At her lowest point, all she did was stay home, get high and watch TV, she said.
"It became a really dark and sad world for me. The mixture of marijuana and whatever other drugs and drinking really messed up my brain. It really made me a completely different person."
Ever since, the troubled star has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, including being arrested for reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence, and criminal possession of marijuana.
"My advice to anyone who's struggling with substance abuse would be to be careful because drugs can really take a hold of your life," she says.
