She’s never been shy to tell the world about the vow she made to God as a devoted Christian – that she won’t have sex until she’s married.

One of the stars of the HBO series Insecure, actress Yvonne Orji certainly isn’t insecure about being a 39-year-old virgin.

Yvonne recently appeared on Chelsea Handler’s podcast, Dear Chelsea, and proudly spoke about saving herself for marriage.

"I am," Yvonne replied when Chelsea asked if she’s still a virgin.

The actress and comedienne was on the show to promote the paperback release of her book, Bamboozled By Jesus.

Many fans who’ve watched Yvonne in a few hot and heavy scenes as Molly in the HBO series say they find it hard to believe the actress, who turns 40 in December, is still a virgin.

But Yvonne maintains she's waiting for marriage. “Pray for him, whoever he is, there's a lot of pent-up energy up in here with me,” she quips.

She also jokes about her strict Nigerian upbringing and the brutal realities of dating in her HBO comedy special, Yvonne Orji: A Whole Me, saying that going all the way isn't the only matter about which she’s sought God’s guidance.

In the comedy special, she says God told her to pursue comedy after her family moved from Nigeria to Maryland in the USA.

“It was the traditional immigrant story of my parents wanting the best for us and bringing us here. But it wasn’t always easy.”

After she got her master’s degree in public health from George Washington University, she says she “disappointed and confused her family” by declaring she wanted to move to New York to pursue stand-up comedy.

“I can't mess up, because, again, the Nigerian in me is ‘we gotta be excellent’ and I prayed, by this time I had a relationship with God for five or six years,” she says. “God was like, ‘Do comedy.’ Like I heard the voice of the Holy Spirit say, ‘do comedy’.”

The actress, who previously dated NFL player Emmanuel Acho from 2018 to 2019, is candid about her sex life but hasn’t publicly confirmed whether she’s seeing anyone new.

“I’m open, because why not?” she told People. “I’m grounded in who I am.

“Before any of [the fame] happened, I sat down with myself and with God and thought, when I make it, how do You want me to represent You while I’m here? It was like, okay, I know why I’m here. It’s to make You proud.”
