Okay, this happened!

The time travelling heroes of Back to the Future arrived in 2023 for a rare and "thrilling" reunion.

The cast of the massively popular films, which features multiple timelines thanks to a time travel machine, recently reunited at a fan convention in Portland in the US. The trilogy's star, Michael J Fox (62), said it was a thrill to catch up with his "favourite people", his Back to the Future co-stars: Christopher Lloyd (84), Lea Thompson (61) and Thomas F Wilson (63).

Lea, who played Lorraine, the mother of Michael's character, Marty, shared photos and video clips on Instagram of the cast hanging out.

“Love ya,” she says to Christopher, who played Doc Brown, the 1985 movie's eccentric inventor of time travel.

In another clip Thomas, who played the bully Biff Tannen, says, “I love this lady. It’s so great to see you. You’re so fabulous.”

He posted a picture of his old castmates and captioned it, "Okay, so this happened. 2023".

Michael thanked the FanExpo organisers for reuniting the main cast members for the first time in many years.

Christopher and Michael have appeared together on the convention circuit before, most recently at last year's New York Comic Con and the Awesome Con in Washington in 2021.

Despite having worked closely on their hit movies, Michael says he only really got to know him during the filming of the third Back to the Future movie, which was released in 1989.

“It took me a few films to get to know him and on Back to the Future Part III we connected in a way we hadn’t on the other films.

“I came to see how much he loved acting. I never got that before. He’s full of surprises.”

Christopher continues to act and will next be seen in the third season of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

His recent movies include the thriller Nobody and the drama The Tender Bar.

Michael, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991 when he was 30 years old and at the height of his career, retired from acting in 2020.

"I'm so grateful to all these people and thousands more who will make a world without Parkinson's a reality," he said when he got candid about how the disease impacted his life, while accepting the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 13th Governors Awards November last year.

"It's humbling in the deepest way to stand here today and accept your kindness and approbation, when truly the effort is being driven by others so deserving of this attention," he added.
