Caitlyn Jenner recently went where few parents dare to tread: publicly declare which child they’re closer to.
"I have six biological and four stepkids. That’s a lot of children," she says on Dear Media's The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast.
The 71-year-old has sons Brandon (39) and Brody (37) with ex-wife Linda Thompson (70); daughter Cassandra Marino (40) and son Burt (42) with ex-wife Chrystie Crownover; and daughters Kendall (25) and Kylie (23) with ex-wife Kris Jenner. She also helped raise Kris' kids, Kourtney (41), Kim (40), Khloé (36) and Rob (33).
Asked who she sees herself in the most, Caitlyn said she and Kendall "have a lot in common".
"She's very athletic," she says of the supermodel. "We kind of both had the same attitude towards life. I get along very well with the two of them, but Kylie and I just seem to be closer most of the time."
And it’s clearly Caitlyn’s youngest who holds a special place in her heart.
"Kylie is just the exception to the rule. I mean, she's just – all the stars came together.
"Kendall's off doing her thing, and Kylie, like, I had dinner last night at Kylie's house. We try to do that once a week, once every two weeks. I go over there and she always has these great meals prepared, [even though] she doesn't cook them. But they're so good! It's better than a restaurant.
"[We] just have a glass of wine and talk about stuff and this and that. And so from that standpoint, we're a lot closer. Kendall's always a little bit more secretive. We're still very close, but it's kind of harder to figure her out. Kylie's more of an open book."
And it seems the feeling is mutual: Kylie had only glowing things to say about her parent during a recent interview.
"My dad has always been an inspiration to me, from winning the gold medal at the Olympics to getting her pilot's license," the make-up mogul said. "However, watching her live out her true self has been the most inspiring of them all. She's our hero."
Caitlyn also opens up about how, when she met Kris on a blind date in 1990, Kris was having a tough time.
“She had just been going through a divorce. And we just kind of hit it off from the beginning.”
The pair tied the knot in 1991, one month after Kris had formally divorced late lawyer Robert Kardashian.
Kris got Caitlyn to work harder, admitting that her husband-to-be was still living in a rented house and wasn’t motivated to work much. With her canny eye for an opportunity, Kris found ways for her new husband to make a living.
Caitlyn had been doing some public speaking and Kris encouraged Caitlyn to market herself better. The pair made up “these beautiful brochures” and sent them out to various organisations and individuals.
“And all of a sudden, speaking [engagements] started coming back. And then we started in the first year, the infomercial world in the early Nineties was just getting started. And I was asked to do this infomercial I thought, why not?”
“And then that started generating something and that has led to other things, to other things, to other things and eventually to the show [Keeping Up With The Kardashians].”
Although the long-running reality show is coming to an end this year, after 14 years and 20 seasons, it’s unlikely to be the last we’ll see of Caitlyn on the small screen.
She’s reportedly set to appear in the upcoming Sex and the City reboot, titled And Just Like That…
“Caitlyn has been a media fixture in one way or another for going on 50 years. She’s really perfect for an appearance,” insiders say of the show’s decision to cast the transgender icon. “They want new faces for the show, but they want people viewers actually know and care about too.”
