Rocky star Dolph Lundgren is officially an American citizen – 40 years after he first arrived in the US.

Dolph (66), and his wife, Norwegian-born Emma Krokdal (27), both became citizens this week.

“America has given me some wonderful opportunities and an amazing life. I’m proud to become a US citizen and officially make this my home,” Dolph says, adding that it was about time.

The Expendables star came to the US to study at Washington State University and Clemson University in South Carolina. He was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston in 1983, and even though he excelled in his engineering studies, he decided to move to New York City and take up acting.

In 1984 he landed his breakthrough role as Ivan Drago, a ferocious boxer from the Soviet Union, in Rocky IV, opposite Sylvester Stallone. Decades later he reprised that role in the Rocky spinoff movie, Creed II.

Dolph and Emma took to social media to share pics of themselves swearing the oath of allegiance in a ceremony held in Los Angeles.

“(I’m) feeling lucky to now have two homes, two very different countries, but the mix of the two have made me who I am today,” Emma said in a social media post.

The couple got married last year after a three-year engagement.

"We chose to celebrate our love by getting married at our villa in Mykonos with family and a few close friends," they said in a statement after their wedding.

"With both Covid and a long road of challenging medical treatments, we’ve had to push our marriage plans many times."

Last year the actor revealed he's been living with kidney cancer for the past eight years, but that his health has improved.

“I'm living a normal life. I'm still taking oral medication, but it doesn't really affect me," he told Entertainment Tonight.

"I mean, there's no side effects. Every day to me is a blessing, and I really enjoy it, and I feel really good about that."
