He first made a name for himself playing the portly Dan Conner on the hit sitcom Rosanne and filled the screen in dozens of roles since then – a larger-than-life star with a big laugh and a belly to match.

But the actor who stepped out on the red carpet recently looked nothing like the John Goodman movie watchers have come to know.

Fans would have noticed a far slimmer John but for many it was a big surprise – this guy was half the size he used to be.
