Kate Beckinsale has shared some heartbreaking news about Clive, her much-adored cat.
"Clive has died," the British actress recently wrote on social media. "I don’t have it in me to make a montage or even look at pictures of him yet. Every single part of my house feels like he should be in it. If anyone is expecting to hear from me, you may not for a bit and I'm sorry.
“My heart is absolutely and totally broken.”
Kate’s fans and followers all got to know Clive better during the pandemic. While the world was in lockdown, she regularly shared pictures and videos of her fur baby, and he became something of an internet sensation – bringing joy to people’s timelines.
In June 2020, Clive got dressed up to celebrate his 17th birthday and played a little Cat Stevens for his fans. Since then, Kate’s shared snaps of them in matching tuxedos and jumpers, had her cat dress up as Santa Claus – while not looking very happy about it – and she even shared a clip of her and Clive bopping along to the will.i.am and Britney Spears number Scream & Shout.
The Underworld star told People magazine in 2019 that her grumpy looking feline, a grey and white Persian, had survived cancer despite being “quite old”.
Kate said she got the kitty when her daughter, Lily Sheen (24), was little.
“Clive’s favourite things in the world are suitcases and boxes and bags. If you bring home a pair of sneakers or take out a bag, he’s immediately inside it,” Kate once told People. “So we got him this suitcase bed and he loves it so much.”
In the wake of her beloved cat's death, Kate received words of encouragement from Hollywood actresses Michelle Pfeiffer, Anya Taylor-Joy and Lisa Rinna, who all offered their condolences on her page. Fans also sympathised with the actress.
“Oh what a sweet, funny, up for any occasion, beautiful boy he was,” one follower said. “May your heart find peace.”
“Our hearts break for you. We are so deeply sorry for your loss of sweet Clive,” wrote someone from animal rights organisation Peta. “May your precious memories together bring you comfort through the pain.”
