Chances are slim that former Sex and the City co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall will appear on-screen together anytime soon.

For the first time recently, SJP spoke at length about the long-standing rift between the actresses while appearing on The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast.

"It's so painful for people to keep talking about this 'catfight'  a fight, a fight, a fight. I've never uttered fighting words in my life about anybody that I've worked with, ever," said Sarah (57).

"There is not a 'fight' going on. There has been no public dispute or spat or conversations or allegations made by me or anybody on my behalf. I wouldn't do it. That is not the way I would have it."

Kim (65), who played Samantha Jones on the series, was missing from the reboot show titled And Just Like That..., which aired earlier this year. She has maintained that she would never return because of feuds with her former co-stars with whom she had "never been friends".

In the podcast, SJP revealed that they'd merely respected Kim’s wishes when they didn't include her in the series’ reboot.

“She made it clear that that wasn't something she wanted to pursue, and it no longer felt comfortable for us, and so it didn't occur to us," she said. "That's not 'slamming' her; it's just learning.

“I’ve spent a lot of years working really hard to always be decent to everybody on the set  to take care of people,” Sarah said. “And there just isn’t anyone else who’s ever talked about me this way, so it’s very painful.”

HOW DID THEY GET HERE?

It started in the early 2000s, ostensibly over tensions about money. Sarah's salary was increased in the second season of Sex and the City, leading her co-star and on-screen bestie to negotiate for a bump in pay.

"Honestly, we are all friends and I wish I saw more of Kim. She mentioned money and no one should vilify her for it. People made a decision that we had vilified her,” SJP once said.

After sitting alone at the 2004 Emmy Awards, Kim said, "Are we the best of friends? No. We're professional actresses. We have our own separate lives,"

The pair, alongside Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, went on to star in six seasons of the hit TV series and two movies in the franchise.

"It hasn't always been smooth sailing, but the idea that we're somehow adversarial is ludicrous," Cynthia once told Marie Claire in an interview. Kristin once shared, “The story was that we don't like each other  ridiculous!”

But rumours of the co-stars fighting refused to die down after reports claimed that the third Sex and the City movie was cancelled due to Kim’s demands.

"This is really where I take to task the people from Sex and the City and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker," Kim told Piers Morgan on Life Stories in 2017. "I think she could've been nicer. I really think she could've been nicer. I don't know what her issue is."

But Sarah discussed the claims recently during the podcast, adamantly denying that she contributed to any feuds with Kim.

"I've always held Kim's work in high regard and I'm always appreciative of her contributions. If she chooses not to do the third movie, there's not a lot I can do to change her mind and we must respect it. That's the only thing I've ever said about it, you know?"

'I just wish that they would stop calling this a 'catfight' or an 'argument.'

Not long after SJP shared details on the podcast, her Hocus Pocus 2 co-star Kathy Najimy shared a tweet calling Kim "one of the best, most authentic humans in the business and maybe the world", leaving many fans now wondering whether this may throw a spanner in the works of the upcoming film's press tour.

And just like that ... the drama continues.
