If you’re looking for five bedrooms, like the sound of a waterfall splashing over a rock-lined swimming pool and dream of having your own private spa, movie theatre and outdoor meditation platform, then Jim Carrey's magnificent home might just be the place for you.

The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind actor is busy packing up all his belongings and getting ready to vacate the mansion in Brentwood, Los Angeles, which he's owned for about 30 years.

“Extending over two private and serene acres [almost a hectare], this sprawling mostly one-storey ranch home is a one-of-a-kind magical sanctuary,” the listing on Sotheby’s International Realty says.

In a statement to The Wall Street Journal, the first to report the listing, Jim (61) said the property has been a “place of enchantment and inspiration”.

“I don’t spend a lot of time there now and I want someone else to enjoy it like I have," the Canadian-born comedian told the New York Post.

If you have $28,9 million (about R500 million) at your disposal, the 1 000-square-metre mansion could be yours!

Jim’s spent many years retreating behind the brick walls of his private space which boasts grassy lawns, an outdoor platform for yoga and meditation and a spa. He paid around $3,8 million when he bought the home back in 1994 before his first major movie hit, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

It's where he spent “30 very creative and prosperous years”.

“Every night the owls sang me lullabies and every morning I sipped my cup of Joe with the hawks and hummingbirds, under a giant grandfather pine,” the star of Sonic The Hedgehog told The Post.

The decision to sell up could be part of a decision to take a break from his career, which he hinted at last year in an interview with Access Hollywood.

"I'm being fairly serious," he said. "It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that's written in gold ink, that says to me that it's going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road. But I'm taking a break."

He added, "I really like my quiet life and I really love putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life, and I feel like – and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough. I've done enough. I am enough."
