When Kaley Cuoco and her husband Karl Cook announced the end of their marriage, it was a shock, even to those closest to the couple.

The Flight Attendant star and her estranged husband announced earlier this month, in a joint statement, that they “have realised that our current paths have taken us in opposite directions."

"We have both shared so much of our journey publicly so while we would prefer to keep this aspect of our personal life private, we wanted to be forthcoming in our truth together. There is no anger or animosity, quite the contrary.”

But puzzled friends of the pair say they seemed great together when they last saw them at the start of [the US] summer and that there was no indication they were going to break up.

"Kaley seemed very happy with Karl. They were affectionate and seemed great," says an insider. "The split seems very sudden. It's pretty shocking."

Things between the pair appeared rosy on the social media front too.

In June Kaley posted on Instagram that she was “sincerely impressed” with her husband as they celebrated three years of marriage.

She wrote, “NY, June 30th, 2016 is the year we met. 2 years to the day before we got married and now 3 years married! Why have you stayed married to me for so long?! I'm sincerely impressed @mrtankcook lol I love you oh so much you have no idea …happy anniversary!!!”

Kaley (35), an avid equestrian and Karl (30), a professional equestrian, started dating in 2016. They were engaged in November 2017 and tied the knot six months later at a stable near San Diego, California, with close friends and family in attendance.

The pair enjoyed an unconventional relationship, with the actress admitting that they had lived separately for the first two years of their marriage.

"We have different locations that we are at a lot. We are not together every single day,” the Emmy-winning actress explained.

They finally moved in together in 2020, after the Covid-19 pandemic forced them to form a bubble.

“We've been married for a year and a half, been together for almost four years and we now, this quarantine has forced us to actually move in together,” the Big Bang Theory star said at the time.

Kaley added: “It's been great for our relationship. And we like each other we realised, which is even better.”

But after just a year of living under one roof things took a turn with Kaley filing divorce papers to the Los Angeles Superior Court last Friday.

As news of their split made headlines, industry insiders started speculating on how the financial side of the settlement would unfold.

The actress is estimated to have a net worth of $100 million, mostly thanks to her massive Big Bang Theory salary. By the end of the show, she was the second-highest earning actress on TV – behind Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara - earning $1 million per episode.

A source insists that Kaley has an "ironclad prenup in place” and that “her assets are protected.”

Not that her estranged husband is going to be left struggling to make ends meet.

Karl is also worth around $100m, thanks to his father Scott Cook, who founded the finance software firm Intuit. Kaley’s ex-father-in-law has an estimated net worth of $4 billion, according to a 2021 Forbes report.

Karl is a renowned equestrian and has earned thousands in prize money on the global horse competition circuit.

Details of the couple’s prenup is still under wraps, but Us Weekly reports that Kaley and Karl have been ordered to share details about "current income and expenses as well as property assets (owned both separately and together) and debts" within 60 days of their divorce filing.

This is not the star’s first high profile split. She was previously married to tennis player Ryan Sweeting from 2013 to 2016 and she dated her Big Bang Theory co-star, Johnny Galecki, between 2007 and 2009.
