Will Smith rolled back the years as he took to the stage at Coachella for a surprise performance with J Balvin.

Dressed as Agent J, his character in Men in Black, Will thrilled the audience with his high-energy act at the US music festival.

His cameo appearance came towards the end of the Colombian singer’s extraterrestrial-themed set.

With dancers either dressed as fellow agents or green aliens, Will sang a portion of his Grammy Award-winning hit Men in Black.

It was Will’s first performance since he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars last year.

The star has laid low since then, with the exception of an appearance on Jada Pinkett Smith’s now-cancelled talk show, Red Table Talk.

While at Coachella, Will (55) made a joint appearance with his estranged wife Jada (52) and their son Jaden (25) to support Willow (23) as she performed with Jon Batiste.

Jada revealed in her memoir, released last year, that she and her husband have been separated for the past seven years and have been living apart.

She explained that she and Will haven’t made any permanent decisions about their marriage and are still figuring it out.

“We've been doing some really heavy-duty work together," she said. "We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like.”

For his part, Will is slowly easing back into the limelight.

Last month, he and Martin Lawrence finished filming Bad Boys: Ride or Die.

The movie, which sees them reprising their roles as Detectives Mike and Marcus, respectively, is the fourth and final instalment of the blockbuster cop series.

It's set to hit cinemas worldwide in June.

Will has also recently been active on social media, posting pictures with his rarely seen siblings, friends and family.

To celebrate National Pet Day, he paid tribute to Abbey, the German Shepherd that starred with him in the hit movie I Am Legend.

The father of three credits Abbey, who played Samantha in the film, with helping him overcome his fear of dogs.

“I was with her all the time and we became the best of friends. I liked having her around and when the movie production ended, I wanted to keep her. I was no longer nervous of any sort of dog and kind of fell in love with her.

“Steve [Abbey’s owner and trainer] was also attached to her, though, and so she stayed with him,” he said. “He did say that we had bonded really well, which was nice to hear.

“It was the end of the movie, but the start of a different approach to dogs for me.”
