Bar supervisor Sophie Stevenson (24) met 21-year-old Jesse Mateman while on holiday in Spain and the pair stayed in touch after the holiday.
Sophie told The Mirror that they had a “proper romance” during the holiday and she believed they were in love. They had slept together after becoming caught up in the Barcelona terror attack which killed 13 people and injured 130, on August 17, Mail Online reports.
She then decided to plan a trip to visit him in his hometown of Amsterdam.
But she was crushed when he wasn’t at the airport to greet her when she landed. Even worse, she soon discovered he’d duped her and never had any intention of hooking up with her again.
Jesse had pulled what’s known as a “pig stunt” on her. Devastated Sophie took to social media to share his spiteful texts.
“You were pigged,” he texted her and added two pig face emojis to the message, telling her that it was a joke.
According to Sophie, she only heard from Jesse six hours later when she arrived at her hotel in the Dutch capital. He then blocked her on his phone.
A ‘pig stunt’ is when a man is indirectly saying that a woman is unattractive and fat, according to Emojipedia. Sophie told The Sun that she felt ill as a result the incident.
Sophie's mom, Julie Stevenson, confirmed to Mail Online that Jesse had pressed Sophie to tell him when she’d visit him in Amsterdam. He apparently phoned her every day and called to send her his love as she boarded the plane, Mail Online reports.
'He said he wanted to come and visit her in Manchester and was planning a visit. He then said he could not wait and asked if Sophie would come over to Amsterdam, “said Julie.
'Sophie said as she was getting on the plane he was calling her and telling her he couldn't wait to meet her at the hotel, “Julie adds”
'It just shows you the lengths he was going to to make a fool of my daughter, “Julie said, adding that her daughter was ïn absolute bits”.
