Books that will leave young readers totally spellbound!

Revolting Things to Touch and Feel

By Roald Dahl, Puffin

Kids absolutely love anything that’s rude and gross, so this book is bound to be a winner.

From slippery snails to bushy beards, it’s full of the most revolting things to touch and feel.

What does a giant’s foot feel like? How about a rotten egg, or a bumpy crocodile? This fun book is a great way to introduce children to the delights of Roald Dahl and when they’re a little older, they can progress to Matilda, The Witches and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The Ickabog

By JK Rowling

Hachette

The Ickabog is a monster that, according to myth, lives in a remote corner of the kingdom of Cornucopia. It’s a convenient way of accounting for lost sheep but mostly it’s used to scare children into being obedient.

But one day something happens and the myth takes on a life of its own, throwing everything into disarray. With a clueless king and his conniving advisors causing even more chaos, it’s up to two kids to save the day. But can they do it?

Rowling released the tale online to give children something to read during lockdown but that free version is no longer available,so if you want to find out what happened you’ll have to buy the book.
