The pandemic wreaked havoc with our health over the past two years and apart from physical health issues, many people have also been affected by the psychological and emotional effects of Covid-19.

In 2020 mental-health problems, largely due to anxiety, burnout and depression, were the second most common reason for the income-­protection claims life insurer FMI received.

There’s a perception that it’s difficult to claim for mental-health issues, but it’s a topic income-­protection providers are proficient in assessing and insurers do pay for valid claims, says FMI’s chief product actuary Leza Wells.
