This adorable Chihuahua-mix is living the high life after spending months at an animal shelter. Rescue pup Presley was adopted by Rebecca Shelton when she just three months old and was named after king of rock and roll Elvis, who was Rebecca’s mom’s favourite singer.
“She’s like my baby. I treat her like my child,” Rebecca from Florida, US, told Metro News. “I got Presley after my mom passed away. She wanted me to have company.”
When the estate agent first brought the pooch home, Presley was malnourished, and as a result her development was delayed.
Despite Presley’s rough beginnings, Rebecca has made sure the four-year-old Chihuahua lives a life fit for a queen.
The pup has more than 150 outfits, including adorable T-shirts and pink tutus, which have set her owner back around $10 000 (R152 000).
Rebecca also revealed that Presley, who has a personal designer, prefers sparkly rhinestones and accessories and wouldn’t dream of wearing the same outfit twice.
“She lives for it,” says the 34-year-old doting owner. “She’ll jump up on the chair, ready and waiting when she sees me getting some clothes out.
“We give her castoffs to less fortunate dogs, and I make sure Presley has the latest custom-made clothes in her many wardrobes and drawers.”
Presley is well-known in the doggy fashion industry
and has taken part in numerous competitions. The stylish pooch, who is popular
on social media, also often makes appearances at restaurants and gets recognised
on the street.
“She is a little bit of a diva, and there are some restaurants she refuses to eat out in,” Rebecca says.
Rebecca, who has other two dogs, Belladonna (10) and ChiChi (8), encourages others to adopt sassy Chihuahuas like Presley.
“Chihuahuas are the second most common dog you’ll see in a rescue centre and I was determined to help out – this is what led me to getting Presley in the first place,” she says.
“By getting Presley recognised, I hope others will be inspired to adopt too. I reckon at least 10 people have adopted the breed because of me.
“My dogs are everything to me and I always say any potential suitor must love the dogs just as much – else it won’t work!”
