If you'd asked footwear fundis and fashionistas what they thought of them when they first hit shop shelves, they would’ve shaken their heads in utter disdain. Bulky, clunky, foamy, ugly – what was to like? They’ll never last, the critics crowed.

But, oh, how they’re eating their words now.

Crocs – once beloved by gardening grannies and uncles who no longer cared what anyone thought of them – are not only here to stay, they’re officially cool. These big boys and girls of the sandal/sneaker/clog world turn 18 this year and have they ever come a long way?
