Business in the front, party at the back is how it’s affectionately described. We’re talking about the mullet – the short-on-top, long-at-the-back ’do that ruled the hairwaves in the ’80s and ’90s and was seen on everyone from country singer Billy Ray Cyrus to tennis champion Andre Agassi and actor Patrick Swayze.

Although it’s often ridiculed, it still boasts a huge fanbase – especially in America, where every year a competition is held to find the most magnificent mullets in the land.

The 2023 contest saw hundreds of men, women and children put their best manes forward in a bid to win the coveted title.
