While many of us spent our days baking banana bread and binge-watching series, one woman decided to spend lockdown learning an impressive new skill.

Tara Aleck, from London, passed the time by recreating famous paintings on her nails.

Whether it’s Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night, Edvard Munch’s The Scream or René Magritte’s The Son of Man, Tara has, well, nailed it.

“I was completely alone and felt so isolated and incredibly bored when lockdown started,” the 34-year-old says.

“I wanted a creative outlet to pass the time but was limited by what materials I could easily get hold of.”

Fortunately, chemists were open so she could lay her hands on nail polish “and it all went from there”.

“It was a case of working out what I was able to do and what I wasn’t,” she says. “There was a lot of trial and error. I realised what kind of images I could create well and surprised myself.”

It takes Tara up to six hours to complete the intricate designs and she updates her talons once a week, metro.co.uk writes.

Surprisingly, it’s not the painting she struggles with but rather finding inspiration. So she has started an Instagram account dedicated to sharing her works of art where she also asks her followers for ideas.

“The hardest thing is thinking of something new to put on my nails each week.

“Usually as soon as I’ve done them I’ll start thinking about what to do next because it can take forever to think of something.”

It also doesn’t help that she’s a perfectionist. But, Tara adds, she has learnt not be so hard on herself.

“I can be a bit of a perfectionist and very critical of myself, but what I love about nail art is that it’s only there for a few days,” she explains.

“It doesn’t have to be perfect because it won’t be there forever, which is quite liberating to someone like me.”

Her goal is to eventually work with celebrities to raise awareness on issues that are important to her through her nail art, celebrity.land reports.

“In the future it would be brilliant to work with celebrities and people with high profiles to do nail art for them to raise awareness for social issues I care about.

“Keanu Reeves would be my dream celebrity to work with.”
