This woman’s lashes just won’t stop growing. You Jianxia from Changzhou, China, recently broke her own 2016 Guinness World Record for the longest eyelashes.
Five years ago they measured 12,4cm – now they’re an incredible 20,3cm long.

In 2015 Jianxia realised her lashes were extraordinary when they just kept growing and growing. In a bid to find out why her lashes were getting so long, she sought the help of specialists.
“The doctor couldn't explain this – he just felt it was really amazing,” Jianxia says.
“I also tried to find scientific reasons such as genes or something else. But none of my family has long eyelashes like me, so it can’t be explained.”
Although doctors couldn’t find the reason behind the phenomenon, Jianxia believes the lashes were given to her by Buddha.
“I kept thinking about why I have such long eyelashes, then I remembered I’d spent more than 480 days in the mountain years ago [during a nature retreat].
“So, I told myself my eyelashes must be a gift given by Buddha,” she says.
When it comes to maintaining the long lashes, Jianxia says it’s effortless.
“My natural long eyelashes act as eyeliner. Because my eyelashes are natural, I find it easy to wash my face and go about my daily life. They fall out and grow again,” she says.

Jianxia also believes her lashes give her strength and keep her healthy.
“There might be some connections between my long eyelashes and a stronger body. I’m in fair health now, but when I was born, I was relatively weak.
“Now I feel quite good and many people think I look younger,” she says.
She hopes her story will encourage people to embrace their unique beauty traits.
“In my daily life, my eyelashes don’t bring any concerns or difficulties. Just lots of joys. Only joy, no trouble,” Jianxia says.
“I’d like to say to other people who have unique beauty – let us rejoice together and encourage happiness.”
