When it comes to Christmas, kids usually have a long list of requests for Santa. Toys, treats and family trips typically top the list but one little boy’s letter to Santa has social media users all around the world in tears. In the letter, the boy known only as Will, asks Father Christmas if he accepts the LGBTQI community.
“If you can speak to God, can you tell him I love him and if he loves me for being gay?” Will asks.
The United States Postal Service’s Operation Santa, which coordinates responses to letters addressed to Santa, recently shared the letter on their website. The tradition dates to 1912 and gives people or companies an opportunity to make a child’s dream come true.
Will’s handwritten letter was spotted on the website by Nancy Cruz-Garcia, who shared it to her Twitter account. “This letter to Santa broke my heart,” Nancy says. “Kids are so precious. I can’t.”
Her post quickly went viral, attracting wide support for Will. One social media user said the boy’s letter left them in tears.
“Being a queer kid is so difficult. I hope this little boy knows that God does love him no matter what,” another wrote. A third added, “This hurts my heart so much. I hope Will and all the other little LGBTQ+ babies know (and get told) they're so, so loved.”
Will’s letter wasn’t the only one to tug at the heart strings.
A little girl named Milayia asked Santa to gift her aunt with two mattresses because she’s been working very hard on building a house for them both.
10-year-old Julian says his parents are going through a tough time so some money would help them make ends meet. He also asked for data for the internet because he needs to study.
Almir told Santa his family hasn’t been the same since his mom passed away from cervical cancer. In a very short note, Kameron asked Santa if other kids could be nice to each other, including her.
