In the ring they were known as Dr Ironfist and Dr Steelhammer – two brothers with fists of fury and doctoral degrees to their names. But the fight they’re embroiled in now has nothing to do with boxing.
Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko are prepared to fight to the death for the one thing they love above all else: their motherland, Ukraine. Wladimir (46) was lecturing at the University of St Gallen in Switzerland when Russia invaded Ukraine and without hesitation he dropped everything to join his 50-year-old brother who has been the mayor of the capital, Kyiv, since 2014.
Now they’re becoming two of the most recognised faces of the war. Wladimir recently made a shocking social media post from the city of Bucha showing what he and others have described as “the genocide of Ukrainian civilians”.
