In the theatre of the extreme he’s helped to create, nothing is taboo. Blood, sweat, sex, chauvinism, backstabbing – anything goes in this wild multimillion-dollar world of excess.

But the latest scandal involving Vince McMahon, the billionaire CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), might well be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

The 76-year-old face of WWE is accused of covering up an alleged affair and of paying $3 million (R49m) for the silence of at least one former employee.
