He thought the dog was dead.

Inspector Lee Prins had just dug through a mountain of sand to get to the German shepherd, but he was sure that the rescue effort had taken too long.

Lee rushed to help after a concerned resident of Delft, Cape Town, informed the SPCA that a group of heartless people had buried the one-year-old street dog alive by filling up the exit of the concrete structure he'd been sheltering in with sand.
