She was due to catch a flight back home to Johannesburg, but before going to the airport she decided to take a stroll on the beach. It was one last chance for her to take in Gqeberha’s seafront and enjoy the ocean breeze on her skin before returning to the rat race.

Looking back now, Andy Kawa finds it hard to believe there was ever a time she’d been capable of spontaneously deciding to go for a walk on her own. 

Ever since that afternoon in 2010, she’s been traumatised and depressed. It’s often a struggle to leave home – and it’s a result of what happened on that beach.
