TEARS, tearing your hair out, all-out tantrums – doing homework can sometimes leave even the most patient of parents feeling frustrated.

Kids are often bored by their schoolwork and parents either don’t have the time to help them search for credible information online or they don’t know what kind of information is right for the curriculum.

These are among the reasons why YOU’s school project pages have been so popular for so long. Over the years many of our readers and their kids have used the information from our Young YOU section, which is carefully curated by education experts, to help get homework done.

And now we have great news for those who’ve long wanted to have our education content available online – we’ve just launched our Homework Handled platform to help you out.

Homework Handled is an education portal where our curriculum-based articles and infographics can be accessed on your phone, tablet or computer.

It has articles related to subjects such as history, mathematics, geography, life skills, natural sciences and technology. And we’ve added videos to help make maths easier for kids who may need a bit of extra guidance as they work through tricky problems.

There are other videos too for something a bit more fun – your kids will be able to make their own edible slime, electromagnet and volcano among other cool things, which will keep them busy at weekends and during the holidays.

Homework Handled is the perfect tool for parents who are unsure where to find the best information online that will help their kids to learn.

It’s a safe, easy-to-access environment, where you can get exactly what you’re looking for if your kids are in Grades 4 to 6.

"Our education section has always been an incredibly popular part of the magazine and to have it in digital format will be invaluable for busy parents and even teachers to help kids with their homework," says YOU editorial director Charlene Rolls.

"It’s easy to navigate and it’s great that you can get everything all at once or just go to the sections required for a particular subject."

WHAT IS HOMEWORK HANDLED?

It’s an exciting new digital platform that hosts a variety of expert educational content.

On the platform you’ll find:

  • Well-researched articles about topics covered in classrooms, each with rich detail that can help with orals, essays and other types of homework. Each article is illustrated with images that are captivating for young audiences.
  • Striking infographics that add another element of learning in a visual way. These infographics provide information to supplement the articles and zoom in on a particular aspect – for example, looking at the components of a rocket in a section about space.
  • Make-your-own projects that show kids how to make things from scratch. Projects include making a guitar, a wind meter and a host of other fun items.
  • Mathematics videos and exercises provide extra help with understanding fractions. Maths expert Jenna Swano breaks down the complexity of maths problems using relatable items such as pizza slices to help young minds grasp the information better.

WHY IS IT A GOOD OPTION FOR MY CHILD?

The information is aligned with what they’re taught in classrooms. They’re curated to the Grade 4 to 6 National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS), created by the department of education as a guideline for teachers.

Topics in curriculums
The courses are divided into key topics and themes grade 4 - 6 learners cover in their curriculums.

The content is packaged according to the subject because many of themes and topics overlap it’s easy to find specific things if that’s what you need. Or you could get full access to the site and all the subjects and courses in it.

Our teams are continuously creating new content so the courses will be updated with new articles and infographics.
