Bride reveals her mother-in-law asked her to borrow her wedding dress for her own wedding after ruining her day.

A bride from Portugal was left shocked when her mother-in-law asked to borrow her wedding dress for her own impending nuptials, The Sun reports.

The bride took to a Facebook group, That's It I’m Wedding Shaming, to vent – saying her partner’s mother “ruined” her wedding day, leaving her in tears”.

The bride and her new wife eloped and her mother-in-law was the only guest.

“On the morning of the wedding I had a breakdown while doing my makeup because I wanted my family to be there for me,” she explained.

“I uninvited everyone because my brother is homophobic and I didn’t want him at the wedding, so I decided it’d be best if I didn’t invite anyone at all than not inviting my brother and having that be an issue for the rest of our lives.”

There was more drama when it came to hair and makeup. Her mother-in-law refused to help the bride before herself, the Daily Mail reports.

“I was already in the other room crying, and a teardrop went down my face and fell on my dress, lightly staining it with foundation, which took me on a downward spiral of going from silently crying to violently sobbing,” the post continued.

“My wife dropped everything she was doing to help me finish up. I ended up not finishing my makeup or doing my hair at all, so that was that.”

The wedding ceremony went on as planned but not without more drama.

The monster mother-in-law kept trying to get attention from the only other witness there, an intern who was learning how to officiate the ceremony.

“My wife says it’s a mischaracterisation of the events, and that I was just already annoyed at her from the start,” the bride said, adding that the mom-in-law wore a black dress to the wedding, “which was super odd, but my wife says it was just a dress she liked”.

“She was a brat for the rest of the day and made me feel awful for most of the day, so we went home early and I just took the dress off, put it away and it’s been in my closet since.”

After the wedding, she and her mother-in-law stopped speaking because the mother-in-law began dating the intern.

The pair have since made amends, but now the mother-in-law is keen to hop into the bride’s dress for when she exchanges vows with the intern.

“Even though I have no hard feelings over that day, I still think it’s super weird that she’d ask me for the dress that I wore in a day she ruined,” the bride said.

“I always felt like her mom was super possessive and weird back then, always in petty competitions with me over my wife’s attention. So wearing the dress is somehow even weirder since it’s, you know, my dress.”

Commenters on the post are backing the bride and claim the mother-in-law is in the wrong.

“That is your dress. You can do what you want with it. I'm sure she can find another one!” one wrote.

“Nope, nope nope. She can get her own godd**m dress,” another said.
